Five on Friday

Joining in with Amy's Five on Friday - my fives for this week

1. I live in a house of males - the dog is male too. My epitaph will be Joanne Wilson - wife & mother ( hopefully great, great grandmother too) provider of clean boxer shorts, socks & food.

2. I came to this conclusion last night as they were the most asked questions this past week.

3.  I would also like to think I provide good food too. Look at these lovely carrots & potatoes picked fresh from the garden. Also cast your eyes at my gleaming sink & the tap bit bottom that you see. So new it hasn't collected that manky black deposit yet!

4. Mike ate our dinner last night standing up in the kitchen, lord knows why there was a table a couple of meters away! The boys were out. Rob was in his usual position of keeping the bar standing upright in the local pub for his customary stop off after work. Harry was playing football with friends. We had pulled pork, salad & garlic bread. I was pondering on how my life had changed over the last 25 years. We were listening to 80's music on the radio - some of the songs I last heard whilst trying out new make-up in my childhood bedroom, this time round I was thinking if the boys had enough clean socks & should I clean the oven. Quite a change from orange lipstick don't you think?

5. I'm 42 next week I think the computer age passed me by. The pop ups on my computer asking me to upgrade to windows 10 are irritating me, there is no chance of me upgrading - Windows 8 nearly finished me off.

There you go my fives for this week take care all xx

  1. It's always a bit dodgy near a birthday, all that looking back and reflection! The veg looks wonderful. Enjoy your day and thanks for your messages. x

  2. What is it with boxer shorts and socks? Why are they always in short supply no matter how often you wash? And I only have one man to worry about! Your goodies from the garden look lovely :) Have a lovely birthday! I am also refusing to upgrade to Windows 10. xx

  3. I keep ignoring the pop up for upgrading to Windows 10 too, I have all on switching the computer on and struggle even now to upload or download I never know which photos to write a blog. You are a breath of fresh air and love your down to earth approach to life. Take care.

  4. Loved your post, I had a daughter and then three sons and a 'then' husband who thought the kitchen was only on my planet, not his, so my daughter and I often found ourselves in the kitchen by ourselves... But I taught my boys to cook, use the washing machine, fold washed clothes and it paid off. They treat their partners with respect and are helpful. My daughter married some one who will cook and clean and as for my then husband I left him!
Don't be too unhappy about being 42 it's 30 years younger than me.!! So I think 42 is a great age but so is 72!! Your garden produced looked great, lovely post.

  5. I'm not on Windows 8 yet. And I can completely identify with number 1. All males here too, even the hamster was a boy. And a stinky boy at that. Mine is a life of mud, laundry and food provision. And of course the endless cleaning and tidying that needs to be done around boys. Fabulous home grown veg and oh, that sink, it's a thing of beauty. We're in a hard water area here, so it's a constant battle against limescale. Wishing you and yours a good weekend. CJ xx

  6. I am on Windows 10 now and other than a couple of glitches which I managed to sort out in the end it isn't too bad at all much better than Windows 8

  7. Those vegetables do look good! I'm very impressed by your gleaming sink. X

  8. I'm with you on technology, I don't upgrade a thing until I'm absolutely forced to do so. I remember getting our first video recorder when I was a child and having to show my mum and dad how to use it, how the tables have turned as I now have to ask my two. My phone's on it's last legs and I'm dreading getting a new one.

  9. I've conceded the limescale battle and now just pretend it isn't there. I do have Tap Envy though. Yup, same here, household full of boys. Slightly evened up when J is home and of course Poppy is a girl :o) I went through a black lipstick phase. I remember it used to stain my lips. I thought it looked great. Oh Dear :o) xx

  10. Ha ha! My morning smile ;) I don't get asked about laundry, it's more "I don't have any shorts!!" ... and then I have a few choice (silent) retorts myself. I was out with my girlfriends dancing the nights away during the 80s as well, but I had moved out of the house by then living in an old, old farmhouse with my girlfriend and sister. FUN! times :D

  12. I have a Mac, I don't get the Windows upgrade reminders. My son says it is easy (but he was able to use a computer before he could spell his name). I very much identify with the notion of being a sock and underwear provider. Girls are no different, at least not the one in my house. Your veg look delicious! Have a good weekend. x

  13. Looks to me like you do provide excellent food, those carrots from the garden yummy.

  14. Yummy fresh vegetables. I just thought this morning that our minds are always working on what we need to do next. Do you suppose the men folk have that same issue? Our work is definitely never done.

  15. Hi Jo, I enjoyed your five today and wow fresh veggies from the garden are the best!
    Have a nice weekend.

  16. Lovely summing up of a woman's role in life as far as men are concerned. Have a good weekend, I hope it's a relaxed one.

  18. I upgraded to Windows 10 I must admit eagerly. I had a fair few issues with Windows 8.1 so I wanted to see how much more they had messed things up I guess. Interestingly, I have not had any problems and the changes have only had to do with the way the icons are presented. I still have to go through back doors for some things because I have no idea where they put them in the icon page. I think your fresh vegetables look amazing and I bet they taste fantastic. My veggie raised bed gardening will begin next spring... I accomplished getting the raised beds made and out in the garden this year!
Hope you have a fun and relaxing weekend!
    Hugs,
    Beth P

  19. Your garden produce looks lovely, I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and although dreading it as I had never moved on to Windows 8 I find it ok and it still does the things I want it to in the same way. Have a lovely weekend and a great birthday:)

  20. You're a mere babe, in the eighties I was a Mum to two boys and spent my time washing nappies and football strips.

Music takes you right back there doesn't it :-)

Your lovely veggies set off your gleaming sink very well.

  21. Oh I am so with you about the windows thing. It took me ages to get to where I am with 8, I don't need 10 and what happened to 9 for goodness sake. Where did that go!!! Do you remember really old computers like Commodore 64, that didn't need upgrades and have popups did it! Oh that makes me sound soooooo old and i'm not much older than you! Thank you for joining Five on Friday. I hope that you have a great weekend!!! Sorry to be late visiting, we have been away and just got back today. xx

  22. My husband just installed Windows 10 and he really likes it. I haven't taken the plunge yet but if I want him to help me maintain my computer, I'm going to have comply soon! I hope you have a good weekend, Jo.

  23. I am scared of Windows 10, also. Maybe one of these days I will get brave but not yet.

  25. I'm holding off for a while before I instal Windows 10. I'm hoping they will have worked out all the glitches by then! Have a great weekend in your beautiful new kitchen.

  26. Ha! Just love this as I relate all too well with it too. It feels like only yesterday I was using way too much hairspray to do my hair & wearing something neon. The 80's were the best, weren't they? Lol.
And I refuse to upgrade my windows too. Stay strong fellow 40's friend. ;) xo

  27. what's for dinner is the most common question in this house, followed by is there anything for pudding. If only the teenage boy asked about clean boxers, I still have to remind him to put clean ones on..........
as for the upgrades no thanks. x

  28. Windows what? My ancient laptop is still on XP, you can hear it groaning under the strain - I really must get my act together before it gives up for good. The veg looks lovely, nothing like home grown and at 42 you're only a youngster :o) Have a great weekend xx

  30. I got the windows 10 upgrade when my son was home in the Summer so he could put it right if anything went wrong. I never had windows 8 but apparently it's rubbish and windows 10 is better, It's easy to install but to my mind windows 7 was just as good. I know where you are coming from with all the man things to wash I had four lots when I was your age! Now 20 years later I enjoy doing my sons washing when he comes home but I certainly didn't way back then. Have a great weekend. :) xx

  31. I am not ready for another Windows upgrade, I am not of this time and era, I am 51 and I don't even want any social media or things that stuff. I am constantly thinking about clean undies for my boys and even just undies for Little Buddy, he is still diaper bound.
    Hugs,

  32. In my house the girls are worse than the boys in terms of tidyness and leaving dirty clothes on the floor!
We're an Apple household now so no more Windows shenanigans here.
Lovely fresh veg and what a sparkly sink! xx

  33. I am so with you , the lipstick and oh turquoise high heels...that is my claim to dreadful taste!!! Xx

    ReplyDelete
  34. I ask them where they left the undies. Mine don't actually find the washing basket so I'm on a quest to bore them into submission. And I'm really bad at doing the washing anyway.

  35. All that is behind me for another few weeks now, Joanne, as my boy has gone back to uni … although he did forget to sort out his post festival washing until the night before he went back, the weather was dreadful and I don't have a tumble dryer. Good, huh? Btw, I'm very, very wary of upgrades. I like to let everyone else report the glitches before I succumb. Happy birthday for next week! Caro x

  36. I'm surrounded by boys too! Luckily I do have one daughter - she keeps me sane in a house full of boys ( the dog too!) Your carrots look great. Mine barely grew this year. I'll try again next year, I guess. Have a wonderful weekend!!

  37. Great Friday five. So impressed with anyone who can add to their meals from the garden. I managed to harvest three tomatoes the size of marbles, announcing to whoever was listening, 'Salad for tea'. I often do that eating meals whilst standing up. No idea why. Off to polish my kitchen sink and taps now.

  38. Your home grown veg looks delicious Jo...I'm the opposite to you as I live in a very girly house with a girl dog too! ;-) ....As for Windows 10....I'm just avoiding it for as long as possible!!
    Have a lovely new week,
    Susan x
